Our Syrah is as strong as a Rhino charging through the bush. This wine offers a lean fruit profile with bold flavours, reflecting the cooler climate of the Granite Belt and its unique terroir.
2022 Syrah
Syrah or Shiraz? This is where we might be a bit of a wine snob; I know, we said we aren't snobs... Both wines are made of the same wine grape, but there are distinct differences in growing conditions. In warmer climates the grapes reach a higher potential alcohol and the fruit flavours are more intense - Aussie style Shiraz. In colder climates the potential alcohol tends to be lower and offers a more lean fruit profile - Northern Rhône style Syrah. The Granite Belt is a cooler climate growing region but do often get really warm summers. This lends to the ability to offer both the Shiraz style and the Syrah style wine. The leaner profile of the Syrah led us to the Rhino. Rhinos once roamed many places throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. Today very few rhinos survive outside of national parks and reserves due to to persistent poaching and habitat loss. These large animals are sociable, placid and even-tempered; just careful of their very bad eye sight.
