2023 Fiano
Fiano is an ancient Italian wine grape originally from the area around the small town Lapio in the warmer coastal regions of southern Italy around Campania and on the island of Sicily. This wine grape was long misunderstood and used as one of a few grape varieties to create local wine blends. In the 1990s Fiano underwent it’s own Italian renaissance and is today one of Italy’s great native grape varieties. Similar to the Fiano, the Bilby was long overlooked and their potential not realised. Bilbies are one of nature’s eco-engineers. They play a really important part in the restoration of soil and rejuvenation of vegetation in arid Australia. Bilbies can shift more than 1.5 tonnes of soil per kilogram of body mass in a single year as they construct and maintain their subterranean homes. Other animals like insects, reptiles, birds and small mammals find refuse in these complex burrows when the bibles aren’t living there. These burrows can be up to 3 metres long and two metres deep.
